Happiness is.....

fresh-baked homemade bread -- and of course TOUTONS :-)

I usually mix up bread dough in the morning (or get my oldest son to mix it -- his arms are much stronger than mine) and by lunch time, the dough has risen enough for us to make a few toutons. Delicious!

Basically, a touton is just a small bit of dough, flattened and fried. Many Newfoundlanders will fry them in pork fat, but we just use butter.

As for toppings, some of us like just butter, others like butter and molasses or butter and maple syrup, one even likes a mixture of molasses and syrup. Whatever the topping is, we all love toutons!

Oh, a few hours later we can enjoy some fresh, hot bread, maybe with some homemade jam -- now that's perfection!

Happiness is .......... Scrappy Mail!!

Got a kit from Cupcake Scrapshop! I love it! Can't wait to use it :-)

I signed up for a 3-month subscription, just to check it out. The past kits I viewed on the site looked fabulous, and I was not disappointed with this kit. ...... and only $7 shipping! How great is that!?!

It's a "marble-icious" kind of day :-)

I took a walk with my two younger children today. The sun was shining and even though we still have snow here in Newfoundland (and lots of snowbanks still!) the kids wanted to take their bicycles. They are as anxious for spring to come as I am.

We are able to see some MUD! I was excited to see that. Benjamin wondered why I would be excited about mud. This time of year just brings me back to my childhood. We'd be waiting for a spot of ground -- a small spot would do -- and we'd be out making a marble hole to play in. I remember sticking the heel of my boot in the softening earth and spinning around until I had a nice big hole made. Then we'd share out our marbles. Good times, for sure!

I don't see too many kids playing marbles anymore. Too many other things to occupy their time, I guess. We certainly had fun with it though!
